The Ten BIG Lies About The Internet

Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it. - Rambam: Moreh Nevuchim 2:15)
A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on. - Winston Churchill

In one sentence we can sum up these 10 lies by a quote from a camper of mine “The Internet doesn't cause anyone to go "off the derech" except those who are looking to leave”

Of course there are many concerns one should have about the new lifestyle of the internet and those need to be addressed. The internet can be a very dangerous place for anyone, let alone a frum Jew. Whether the benefits outway the bad is irrelevant. There are many important issues that need to be addressed. But that is not this post.

This post is here to try and put an end to the lies. I have put together what I feel are the ten biggest lies often told. Some of these lies are caused by the spread of misinformation; often using outdated studies. Others are caused by quoting opinion pieces as evidence instead of actual studies. And even others are said by corrupt individuals that have personal agendas. The audience some of whom themselves don't use the internet all to often believe the lies.

I took a lot of my personal time to research and write up all this information and I hope to post it all within the coming few days.

  1. You are using the same s methodology as the "Ichud" for building an eMail list.
When ordering my tickets, they demanded an eMail address! I challenged the order taker as to what purpose this information served, all of a sudden they went on to the next line of their script!

This was being done, at  they same time that planned to make the Internet totally forbidden - unless they are in control. Either they are saying "do as we say, not as we preach", or one hand doesn't know what the other is doing.

You are following in your fathers footsteps, but he would have done two more things, First, he would have used - and publicized - all of the information immediately. Secondly, he would have named the people who had vested interests (getting more income into their vests) in the Asifoh!

  2. I'm trying to get people to sign up to my blog through email so in case the rabonim are ever successful with banning the blogs the emails will still go through. Shhhh
I didnt post the names because I think they will come out by themselves.

  3. This highlights a potential pitfall of obtaining internet services through frum Jewish sources that lack transparency and accountability.  A source could decide (without advertising it)  that only its own particular brand of frumkeit should get through the filter.

  4. I think people will know who controlls the filter, itw more about schools enforcing a certain filter which wont allow sites like aish or anything that doesnt fit their version of orthodoxy. I dont think ill cover that issue but its a big one and will happen very soon.

  5. This gets to the heart of "what is this whole discussion about?"  If it's really about (A) enforcing narrow viewpoints, many won't accept it.  If it's about (B) keeping our computers and other devices free of sexually explicit material, many will accept it.  The line between A and B should not be glossed over in our Jewish media, etc.  We should not be panicked into Option A if B is the thing that is essential.
